"This Is It," the MJ concert film, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on Jan. 26, 2010, distributor Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is expected to announce today (Monday, Nov. 30).
Both versions of the Kenny Ortega-helmed film, which chronicles the 3 months of rehearsals for what was to have been Jackson's comeback tour, will come with more than 90 minutes of extras, including the two
documentaries "Staging the Return: Beyond the Show" and "Staging the
Return: The Adventure Begins," both about the comeback tour and
Jackson's plans and preparations for it.
Also included are
featurettes on the costumes and dance auditions and a "Memories of
Michael" piece, in which director Ortega and the crew of "This Is It"
share personal stories about working with Jackson on the tour
preparations and rehearsals.
Exclusive to the Blu-ray Disc
release are complete, uncut versions of the "Smooth Criminal" and
"Thriller" music videos, portions of which appeared in the theatrical
version of the film.
"This Is It" has grossed more than $70
million in U.S. theaters and $168 million worldwide since its
late-October opening. The film was initially supposed to be in theaters
for only two weeks, with the DVD and Blu-ray Disc scheduled to arrive
before Christmas.
As reported, "This Is It" has grossed over $71 million at the domestic box office
alone. It has grossed over $240 million worldwide since its release
late October.
